1) The City of Seregno has established the International Composition Contest “Ettore Pozzoli” 2017, inspired by the figure of the illustrious Italian Maestro, regarding piano compositions designed for young performers.


2) The competition is open to composers of any nationality and age.

3) Inspired by the great tradition of the piano literature for youth (Bach, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Kabalevsky, Kurtag etc.), the competition will be divided in three age groups:

- Group A: from 5 to 8 years

- Group B: from 9 to 13 years

- Group C: from 14 to 17 years

 The compositions must have a technical and expressive value befitting for each age group. The compositions must be written for one performer (piano with two hands). It is not permitted to use other instruments and electroacoustic equipment.

4) Each competitor may submit multiple pieces. Each of them, even if divided into sections, must not exceed the duration of 5 minutes.

5) The submitted compositions must be unpublished, in print or audio formats, nor be commercial audio/video.  Also, they must never have been used in other competitions.

6) Registration fee for each composition is €50.00 (net of bank charges) via Bank Transfer, or €53.00 via Paypal.  Whichever payment method you choose, the registration fee is non-refundable.

7) The compositions must be submitted in six (6) hard copies, which won’t be returned, by the 31st of August 2017 and should be sent to the competition secretary to the following address:

8) Each submitted composition, identified with a nickname, must be place in an envelope that contains no information/signs that would otherwise identify the composer. This envelope should also contain another sealed envelope, marked with the same nickname, detailing the following information:

- Name of the composer

- Place and date of birth

- Nationality 

- Two recent photographs 

- Domicile, email address and at least a telephone number 

- A brief curriculum vitae in Italian or English / A brief summary of your musical experience

- A statement of the originality of the composition and the requirements referred to in point 5) 

- Authorization to perform, publish, record and grant disclosure of the submitted composition. If the author has an exclusive deal, a release from this deal has to be attached.

- Copy of receipt of payment of the registration fee. 


Please note that in the case of several submitted compositions by the same composer, each piece has to be provided with its own nickname and its own envelope detailing all the above information.

N.B. Composers are invited to indicate on the score in which age group they intend to propose their work. In the absence of such indication, the jury will provide to insert it in the appropriate group.

9) The international jury will be composed of five (5) renowned musicians. The judges' decision is final. The result of the competition will be published on the competition’s website.

10) Prizes: 

The jury may award one award of €1,000.00 for each age group and may also consider deserving compositions. The winning compositionswill be performed during the International Competition for Young Pianists “The Pozzolino” and will be published by Casa Ricordi of Milan. They will also be compulsory piece, optionally, during the edition of 2018 of the International Competition for young pianists "The Pozzolino ". 

11) The Court of Monza shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from these conditions.
